Dr Al Hassan Ali Taher, governor of Hodeidah province, said the Yemeni people are determined to liberate the country from the Houthi militias, with the support of the Arab Coalition.
The UAE Armed Forces, as part of the Arab Coalition, are launching various military operations to ensure the security of Yemen’s Red Sea Coast and protect maritime navigation in a strategic international commercial route, he said in an interview with the state news agency Wam.
Dr Taher said the targeting of international maritime trade in the Red Sea by the militias is a blatant defiance of the international community, the resolutions of the United Nations, and international conventions.
The liberation of many strategic areas along Yemen's coast has left the people optimistic, Dr Taher said.
The coalition and government troops are now closing in on the city of Hodeidah, where the Iran-backed rebels control Yemen's largest port.
The militias have attacked many ships carrying aid to Hodeidah port, he said.
Dr Taher said the complete liberation of Hodeidah port would be a blow to the militias, and praised the UAE’s role in fulfilling the needs of the country’s liberated areas, by restoring and maintaining many key facilities.
The UAE’s support for the Yemeni people is a model to be followed by other countries that desire to support the rights of the oppressed, he said.
