NYFW SS2020

1- Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs Spring 2020 collection was outstanding. It was held in The Park Avenue Armory and was inspired by nostalgia. Inside his show notes was written “As with closely guarded tradition, tonight is our reminder of the joy in dressing up, our unadulterated love of fashion and embracing grand gestures of unbridled expressions, reactions, ideas and possibilities.” He always goes for a Drama mood but for this season, he wanted to be less serious.

The runway opened with the “Dream a Little Dream of Me” music playing in the background and models walking down the runway through the audience who were sitting on white chairs. Behind the metallic eye shadows and voluminous eyelashes for the models is the makeup artist Pat McGrath along with a team. There were vibrant colors, plaid and sequin pantsuits, tulle floral, leather, knits, Victorian nightgown dresses, colorful knits, metallic pants and ruffles. Some of the models had a different type of hat and others had big butterfly shaped shades. For the foot there were suede mules, sneakers, knee boots and one model Gigi Hadid slayed her walk in a knit baby blue mini dress barefoot, walking on her tiptoes which was not part of the show because she suffered a wardrobe malfunction, her heels broke.

2- Proenza Schouler

For this Spring 2020 Proenza inspired by the 80’s twist. The runway was filled with models in boxy suits of pastel shades worn with cropped tops and slinky cowl neck tanks, sculpted cutout dresses and v-necklines. The silhouettes may not have been super sexy, but they easily seduced the audience with their confidence. Definitely the ideal Boss Lady.

The accessories included snacking leather square toe sandals in shades of white, gold, and grey, also white leather booties. There were over sized totes of leather, snake prints and architectural pochettes with opposed wristbands. Also models were wearing large hoop earrings, chunky sunglasses in black and leather choker. The metallic foil paint splatter print fabrics were eye catching.

The highlight of the season, duo designers included new silhouettes such as glitter scoop-necked dress, a draped jersey gown, and an evening duster coat with an open square neckline.

3- Oscar De La Renta

The Oscar De La Renta Spring 2020 carried the audience to the Dominican Republic with their brightly colored flowy kaftans, sheer skirts and signature gowns. “We really wanted to tap into the house’s Latin American roots” fashion designer Fernando Garcia told Vogue. Green trees and other plants beside the blue, yellow and coral pillars decorated the runway which was held at the Cunard building. The show was inspired by a vacation look including gowns and evening wear styles. There were a lot of tailoring, such as candy colored blazers and flowy linen pants. Also floral prints and stripes. Some models had big bags others were carrying clutches.

A model opened the show with a light neon pink blazer over a sheer pink  and orange one shoulder mini dress accessorized with an over sized sheer bow. The Victoria’s Secret well known model Candice Swanepoel walked down the runway in a nude dress with a fishnet bustier decorated with flowers, a sheer skirt and big earrings. Irina Shayk closed the show beautifully wearing a black short in the front and long in the back ruffled taffeta gown that wrapped around her neck and had a finishing bow on the waist.
